Thanks for stopping by! We hope you'll take the time to find out a little more 'about us'!
You may be wondering, “Would a BAR of soap actually work to wash my dog?”. The answer to that question is a resounding “Yes!”. It was after years of being dissatisfied with the commercial dog shampoos on the market that we decided to try using an actual bar of soap to bath our dogs. While we share a number of the responsibilities that come with the dogs as a family, bathing the dogs usually falls upon me. Being the 'Mommy', I have never really minded being the one to bath them. However, I generally found it frustrating every time bath day came. I'd put dog #1 in the bathtub (yep, that's where they get clean in our house!) turn on the shower head and hose them down. Next came time for the shampooing, I'd squeeze some dog shampoo in my hand and try working the lather through their coat only to realize that I didn't have enough in my hands and have to fill up again. Time after time of repeating that procedure, I'd have gone through ¼ to ½ the bottle of shampoo on just ONE dog. We are a large animal family, with 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 hermit crabs and a Ornate Horned Frog, and are kept pretty busy with feeding and caring for our group.
Our dogs, Mabel (Boxer), Brutus (American Bulldog) and Smedley (Rescued Beagle/Terrier Mix) all have their individual personalities, but they all seem to enjoy getting a bath.

Mabel, being a boxer, is the easiest to bath and has some skin sensitivities, which is common to Boxer dogs. Brutus likes to get a bath, but at 90 lbs is not the easiest, he likewise has some skin sensitivities which are typical with the American Bulldog breed. Smedley does well in the bath too and doesn't have any skin issues, but he does have a thicker coat than the other two and even though he only weighs 25lbs I would use at least as much shampoo on him as I did Brutus. I found myself going through almost ¾ of a bottle of shampoo every time I would give my dogs their baths. I felt like I was pouring money down the drain! Not only that, but after a few days all three dogs felt 'grimy' again and the smell never seemed to last either. I thought to myself, “There MUST be something better!” and there IS!
After successfully making our own handmade bath soap for almost a year, I asked my husband if it would be possible to make a bar soap that is just for our dogs. He mixed me up a batch of soap with the wonderful essential oils of clove, tea tree & cedarwood scent. It smelled great!. I could NOT wait to give it a try. Mabel was the first to get bathed and I can tell you personally that it was the best bath I'd given one of my dogs up to that point. The soap lathered right up and I was able to work it in completely. It rinsed out like a dream as well! It was the cleanest Mabel had ever been. She was so clean that when I rubbed my hand down her damp back, she almost 'squeaked'! The smell was great and long lasting as well. He skin wasn't dry, nor did she feel 'grimy' a few days later. I was amazed! How could such a simple solution to my problem have taken me so long to figure out. I know there have to be others out there who are just as frustrated as I was with the dog shampoos on the market. All their claims to be conditioning, moisturizing, bug repellent, etc are clouded by the chemicals, unnatural ingredients, preservatives and colorings. What you get from us at Hippy Puppy Natural Soap is ALL natural ingredients. Hand mixed, hand poured, hand cut and made with you in mind! Our essential oil soaps contain natural essential oils that not only smell fantastic, but offer healthy benefits to your dogs skin & coat.
